Ted A. Mathar, AKA Papa Ted, passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2013. Ted was born in Los Angeles, Calif., on Jan. 31, 1925, to James and Thelma Mathar. He joined and proudly served in the U.S. Navy on April 29, 1942. While serving his primary duty was an aviation mechanic. Upon completing his proud service in the U.S. Navy he took his knowledge he acquired and became a machinist.
He married Betty C. Igo on Dec. 27, 1969. They moved to the valley in the late 70s where they lived for the remainder of their lives.
He is survived by his nieces Ronalee and Cindy. Step-children; step-son Larrell McCurtain and daughter-in-law Raquel McCurtain of Bakersfield, step-daughter Erin Giudice of Orange County and step-son Marc Ward of Colorado. Grandchildren Larry McCurtain and wife Julie; Evan Giudice and wife Crystal. Jennifer and Jeremy of Colorado. Great-grandsons Tyler and Brock and granddaughter Quinn.
Ted is preceded in death by his wife Betty; brothers Jim and Vern; sisters Betty and Maryann and grandson Jake Giudice. Ted Mathar was a loving husband, step-father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and a friend to many and all that he knew.
Services will be at Sierra Mortuary, 5108 Lake Isabella Blvd., Saturday, Feb. 9 at 1:00 p.m
