Officials with the Kern County Fire Department said that one person was arrested on Sept. 10 and three others were detained in connection with a fire that burned an estimated 120 acres in the Kern River Canyon. The River Fire, which was reported around 1:30 p.m. was an estimated 20 acres, but grew rapidly, fire officials said.
The person arrested admitted to starting the fire with a flare gun. He, and the other suspects were in their early 20s. CHP officers caught up to the vehicle on Highway 178 and made the arrest after one of the individuals admitted igniting the blaze.
