Nancy Robertson Aylesworth

Nancy Lee Robertson, 74, of Bakersfield, Calif., died after an extended battle with cancer on Jan. 17, 2012.  Born March 12, 1937, in Inglewood, Calif., she was the daughter of James Bruce Robertson and Constance Anne Robinson, and was raised in West Los Angeles, Calif.  She graduated from Venice High School in 1955, and was a graduate of Santa Monica College with a degree in Retail Marketing.

On Jan. 8, 1959 she married Floyd Leo Clugston.  They had one daughter, Linda. They lived in West Los Angeles until Floyd retired 1982, when they moved to Lake Isabella, Calif.  They were married until his death in 1993.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, James Bruce Robertson Jr.

In 1995 Nancy married Eugene D. Aylesworth of Bakersfield, who survives, along with her daughter Linda and her husband Grimsley of Huntington Beach, Calif.  Nancy and Gene lived in Lake Isabella until they relocated to Bakersfield, Calif. in 2006.


Nancy had several careers, all centered around her creativity and talent. She operated an independent catering company, catering weddings, baking wedding cakes, and her clientele included many local Los Angeles celebrities. This business allowed her to spend time at home with Linda while she was a youngster. Nancy worked for Jurgensen’s Gourmet Grocery for several years until Floyd retired. They then moved to Lake Isabella.

Nancy was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Ladies Oriental Shrine. She was a volunteer in the Citizen’s Service Unit for the Kern River Valley, and a docent for the Kern River Valley Historical Society.

Nancy was a gracious and wonderful hostess as well as an excellent cook. She authored and illustrated several cookbooks, was an artist, a photographer and a talented seamstress.  She traveled all over the United States and abroad. She always returned with elaborate stories of people, places and restaurants visited on the trips.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, at The Grove, 6000 Park Place Drive, Bakersfield, Calif. ,93306.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
