James Lee Cudahy, 27, of Weldon, was sentenced to four years in Wasco State Prison by Judge Michael Bush in Superior Court on Wednesday, Jan 4. Cudahy entered a no contest plea on charges of 2nd degree burglary and receiving stolen property.
A third charge of possessing controlled substance paraphernalia was dismissed. Bush explained that in light of the nature of Cudahy’s prior arrests, prison time and current parole status, the four-year sentence was imposed.

On Thursday, Sept. 8, at 6:22 a.m., Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to the KOA Campground on Hwy 178 in Weldon responding to a burglary call. On arriving, Senior Deputy Daures Stephens and Deputy B. Pierce were approached by a campground employee who told them that someone walked into the KOA office and attempted to steal a can of money left out on the counter for donations to The Cancer Society. The employee told deputies that another employee went after the suspect in a car.
According to Stephens, an employee of the campground was in an upstairs room and heard a noise downstairs in the lobby. When he came down he startled the suspect and the thief fled on foot. The other employee then got into his car and took chase.
While deputies were interviewing the witness, Senior Deputy Stephens saw a vehicle pulled over on the shoulder of Hwy 178 approximately 100 yards away from the KOA entrance. Stephens started walking toward the car and saw someone leaning into the passenger side window. The car then pulled back onto the road and headed towards Stephens. It turned into the campground, and Stephens spoke to the driver. He asked him what the stop was about, and who the person was he was talking to. Stephens stated that the driver told him that he was stopped by a man named James Cudahy. Cudahy asked about the Sheriff’s cars at the campground. Deputy Stephens asked which direction Cudahy went. The driver didn’t know.
Stephens and Pierce searched the surrounding yards and businesses. They went to the Prince Ranch and asked if Cudahy was there. According to a man at the ranch, Cudahy was known around the area, but had not been seen that morning. Stephens crossed the highway and found footprints that would have been made by someone running in and out of the yards. “They lead to the place where the car had pulled over, as if the runner had started walking.” Stephens said. Then the tracks turned and when Stephens followed them, he found Cudahy hiding behind a house.
Cudahy was taken into custody on suspicion of burglary. As Stephens walked Cudahy back to the campground, he was “acting strangely.” Stephens said. When they reached the patrol car, a search of Cudahy’s person found a syringe and other drug paraphernalia. Cudahy was taken to the Kern Valley Substation and arrested for first degree burglary, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

I am sure if others were to look into your past, your closet, there would be a story (at least one) you are not proud of. If I recall correctly reading the Bible, even Jesus didn't do everything right. "
