Roxanna Burkhart (Rocky) passed away Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010 at Ridgecrest Regional Hospital after a short fight with illness. Roxanne was born on March 7, 1977 to Yvonne and Robert Burkhart and spent most of her life in the Kern River Valley and eventually moved toRidgecrest to graduate high school.

After high school, Roxanna moved to Oregon to be with her mother and lived there for several years. After returning to Ridgecrest, she met her boyfriend Jimmy Surles and they had two wonderful boys, Jimmy Surles, Jr. and Steven Surles.

Roxanna was a “professional student” at Cerro Coso Community College, where she obtained her business office technology certificate and continuously worked on her AA in Business.

Additionally she worked part time in the CalWorks office at the college and as an Avon Representative. She was a full time mom, daughter, and friend to all who knew her. Roxanna would stop what she was doing to help her friends, even if it entailed just listening. Her dedication to her children was to be admired as they were the light of her life.

Roxanna is survived by her sons Jimmy and Steven, her mother, Yvonne Fisher (Ridgecrest), and father Robert Burkhart (Kernville), sister Sheila Burkhart (Death Valley), brother Lee Burkhart (Texas), sister Charlene Tavernier (Washington) , best friend/sister Robin Mills (Ridgecrest), boyfriend Jimmy Surles (Ridgecrest), several other nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, friends and the entire Burkhart, Tavernier, and Surles family.

Services are pending.

“Rocky, we were best friends forever and you will be forever in my heart. I love you girl!” Robin
