Lake level impacts tourism

Published on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 2:09 PM PDT

I have seen the area somewhat respond to the lake being a littler higher this year. Restaurants are working, not like they used to be but the lake seemed to be getting some visitors because the lake was up. My first year up here was 1982 and Wofford Heights had five working restaurants and today they have one.

However I noticed that in the last 2 months they have lowered the lake 20-feet. It has gone down two feet in the last week. So for the Labor day holiday it will really be down. I just hope people don’t come up and say they won’t be back.

Am I the only one that thinks about this in this manner?

" The "Kern River" power thing in Mesquite is something else entirely -- it's the Kern River Gas Transmission Company, which runs a pipeline bringing natural gas from Wyoming down through Utah and Nevada to Bakersfield, making deliveries on the way. "

" As a resident of Lake Isabella/Mt Mesa I have wondered how any business survives. The lake looks like a mud hole so often the past few years. The lawns are all dying no one can afford the water to have nice yards. Residents are leaving too. After 40 years we have hoosen to retire elsewhere. "

" Are any of you good people of the Kern River Valley aware of the fact that there is a company in Mesquite, Nevada that goes by the name Kern River power plant? Maybe thats where the Lake Isabella water goes, only how does it get there? "

" the lake needs improvement thats for sure. 7 years ago the water was disqusting and there were extremely smelly jelly fish looking blobs in the water. we never did find out what those were. another idea, plant a few trees around the lake! the place is hot, dry, and depressing to look at! "
