Deadline nears for unsecured (personal) property tax bills
Kern County Treasurer and Tax Collector, Jackie Denney announces that the deadline for payment of unsecured property taxes is Aug. 31. Unsecured (personal) property tax bills are for items such as business equipment, farm equipment, aircraft, boats, and similar assets that are not attached to real estate. Tax bills are mailed to all unsecured property owners whose addresses are known to the County Assessor-Recorder on Jan. 1, 2010.

Air and ground searches were conducted Monday for a Bakersfield woman who was swept away Saturday, July 31, in the Kern River after she tried to rescue one of her four children, Kern County sheriff’s deputies reported.

Rummage sale Aug. 8 to benefit fire victims
On Sunday, Aug. 8, the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Mt. Mesa is sponsoring a rummage sale from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the Furniture Store, 6415 Lake Isabella Blvd. All proceeds will benefit fire victims.

The Forest Service had the Lake Isabella Water Tower, overlooking Engineer’s Point on Isabella Lake, demolished Monday morning. This structure served as a landmark for many in the valley over the last 59 years. The Army Corps of Engineers originally constructed the water tower in 1951 to provide their work center and campsites around the lake with water. In recent years, the tower served as the water supply for the Forest Service’s Lake Isabella office.
