Newsworthiness, is sometime soley in the mind of the reader. If it is something they are interested in or about them, it is usually newsworthy – excluding the law enforcement reports, of course. On the other hand, some find fault with just about everything, especially if it is a topic or an individual with which they have had an issue. Thus, the story is labeled as “not newsworthy.”
For a weekly community newspaper, just about anything that involves local people, places and events is newsworthy and can be front page news. If readers want national news, there are large daily newspapers, television networks and the Internet designed for that purpose. Our job is to promote our community, feature as many locals as possible whether that be award honorees, a new local business, young people’s sports, spelling bees and science projects, or other such events.
Our toughest goal is to look forward and not always behind. Publishing only weekly makes that a very difficult goal to achieve. We joke that it is Murphy’s Law that local breaking news happens the moment our paper comes off the press. It is a fact that weekly papers do not have the luxury of seeing into the future or being able to report the following morning. What we can do is make sure we keep our web site updated with breaking news and we can even notify you via email when such news breaks. We can also keep you informed of up coming events, meetings, sports, and so on, and not just report on the event after the fact. It is great to know the Broncs won a game, but what is in store for them now that they have that win? An accident can’t be predicted, but we can follow up and give you updates.
Many local issues concern us daily, whether it is the hospital, the dam, or fish stocking. Of course, those issues are a priority, but our valley is extremely blessed with awesome people. People giving of their time, talents and even money; local young people giving their all for their teams, whether it be sports, dance, debate, or solo endeavors. We embrace local newborns in our valley, celebrate landmark birthdays and anniversaries, and say goodbye to those who leave us; and all of that, dear readers, is “newsworthy.”

I believe it's a wonderful thing that this community honors their heros in the ways that they do. These men and women do loads of stuff that benefit our town. What have you done? Ya that's what I thought........nothing!
