CHILD MOLESTORS IN KRV

I am a student at Cerro Coso Community College (KRV) working towards a Criminal Justice degree.  I periodically check the MEGANS LAW website to check for 'new arrivals' and to be aware of child predators in my immediate area.  On Wednesday, March 10th, 2010, I was at the college checking the site and I happened to remember one name in particular, OTIS CHEEK (it was due to his odd last name).

This man was convicted of forceable oral copulation on a minor under the age of 14 as well as lewd & lecivious acts with a minor.  I did not really give this much thought accept that he is located on Erskine Creek Rd very close to the college itself.

Upon returning home, I read the Wednesday edition of the KV Sun and to my disgust, I actually saw OTIS CHEEK! He was not noted in the 'Law Enforcement' section but in the papers 'Opinion'(?) section where a reporter asks locals their opinion or how they feel on a certain subject.

This made me sick to know that somebody with this mans past is not only in our area but is seemingly 'Loud & Proud' about communicating out on the street.  I could care less about this mans opinion on any matter under the sun.  I want him as far away from myself, my children & my family as possible.  For those of you who feel that I am being too harsh regarding this person, I suggest you go take one of your grandchildren over to his house (his address is on the Megans Law (California) website) and drop one of your grandbabies or kids off to stay awhile with him.  If you dont have it in you to 'trust' that he has been rehabilitated, then why should any of us.

I think the Sun should use more discretion when interviewing people and possibly go to more areas than just in front Vons in Lake Isabella.  There are plenty of LAW ABIDING citizens that would love to answer the weekly questions that you pose.

Keep your children close.

Sincerly,  Concerned Citizen

" I think we should be very careful before throwing stones. Otis is a neighbor of mine and I could not ask for a better one. We all make mistakes, and he has paid for his over and over. And to ask someone if they are a preditor before asking a question for the paper is ridiculous. I totally agree with Megan's Law but I agree that at times we have to use common sense. "

" Do you expect the paper to ask every person they interview if they are a sex offender? That would be kind of weird. They are allowed to go to the store and buy food just like anyone else. Unless I missed something I didn't see him standing around with a "proud to be a sex offender" sign. He's just going about his business and was asked a question, which he answered. If you want them kept in jail, talk to your legislators. Also, it is against the law to harass offenders using information found on the Megans Law website. "

" cont... almost never find in favor of the accussed. So he did jail time, and placed on megan's law. The 16yo now 19yo confessed that she lied because she needed an A to get into Harvard. The case was overturned. He is still required to register every year for megan's law. Story2- Just turned 18yo boy got his 17yo girlfriend pregnant. Dad was mad, filed rape charges against daughter's will. 18yo convicted of lewd acts with a minor-placed on Megan's law. They are now 27 and 28 w/ 3 kids. People protest outside their house. megan's law has it's benefits and it's flaws. "

" Concerned Citizen- I agree with most of what you are saying. And agree with you about the Sun and the weekly questions. Although the thought of people with those backgrounds living up here is very scary,We have to remember that the Megan's law listings don't tell the whole story. 2 examples- A man I knew was a (very good)teacher in a an OC private highschool. A 16yo student claimed he raped her after he refused to give her a better grade. He said he was innocent until hie lawyer advised him to take a plea deal because these cases..... "
