God’s cathedral

I agree with you. It’s much easier, more enjoyable and more meaningful to visit with God in His forest. I’m 67 and my days of long hikes are over so I use my ATV. I have visited with God on top of Mt. Sherman, in Monache Meadows, Browns Meadow, on top of Piute Pk., Jawbone Canyon in the Mojave Desert and many other areas in God’s great outdoor cathedral. I have sat on a hillside in the Piutes and watched a bear and her cubs across the ravine. I have seen does and their fawns in the spring, all Gods wonders and gifts to us.

It brings tears to my eyes when I see the unneeded death and devastation brought about by organizations that want to eliminate all human use of God’s cathedral, including proper forest management. It’s our responsibility to be stewards of what God gave us. Man’s been suppressing wild fire for over a hundred years. Fire was natures way of cleaning the forest of dead and down timber. Now after years of fire suppression our Forests are over grown with fuel loads not imagined a hundred years ago. It’s our responsibility to take care of God’s cathedral as we have been responsible for the development of disastrous fuel loads.

Organizations that fight the proper scientific management of God’s forest are saying they know more than trained forest scientists and possibly God. I have never been interrupted by a loud OHV during my visits with God in His outdoor church.

Had I been interrupted God would have probably reminded that His Creations are to be shared by all, not just a select few. I think the only restrictions God places on us when using His creation is to treat it with respect, [be honest] and share it and it’s blessings with everyone.

" God Bless You John for sharing.
I guess some people think the outdoors is only for the able bodied. I keep wondering why no one uses the American Disabilities Act to force access to all of OUR closed PUBLIC land.
As far as Jawbone is concerned, it started getting worse the smaller the area riders were allowed to access. "

    " John,
I know that feeling your talking about when something is so beautiful and breath taking that it leaves you with a feeling of awwwwe. At the very least it has to be spirtual. I'm not sure that I agree with the rest of the stuff your talking about because I have seen some pretty compelling arguements on both sides. Yes, cutting younglings can reduce fire hazard, unfortunately, most logging companies are not interested in younglings. These small trees do not meet their demand for lumber. Where is the compromise, I'm not sure. "

" John Perry, for what it is worth, I thought your contribution was very nicely written and also touching. There is almost no better place to experience God and a Religious Experience than in the beauty and magnificent glory of nature.

    Thank you. "

" Why can't you express your thoughts without name calling.
The last time I was in a Church was to give my God Daughter away 11 years ago.
If you had ever been on Sherman Peak and saw the magnificent vistas in all direction you would understand the feelings I tried to express.
If respecting what God gave us to enjoy, share and care for is being some sort of religious nut, then so be it.
I wrote my original letter because it offended me that someone would USE God for their own selfish agenda. "

" John Perry, I have always respected what you have had to say here, but now am sort of blown away with this letter. And to be quite honest, many of us do not use our real names when confronting controversial issues because we need to live our daily lives in a small community, a community that has pegged you as an ultra-right-wing religious fruit cake. Until you display some honesty and sign your name your NOTHING.
It's easy to be mean spirited, ignorant, and spew unprovable points when your a coward that hides behind his or her computer and a phony screen name.
In my opinion you all don't know what your talking about or your intentionally being disingenuous.
When the snow clears I'll take you up to Sherman Peak,9870 ft., and we will see how often were disturbed. IF YOU DARE! "

" Jawbone Canyon looks like a nuclear test site after years of off road vehicle abuse, and that's the future of the entire Sequoia National Forest if we don't get these Evel Knievel chuckleheads under control. God? He would probably want us to leave the forest as he created it. That works for me. Enjoy the forest for what it is. Leave no trace. Tell the off roaders to go back to the homes that they've already wrecked. "
