Thanks for the family fun, History Flats Days

“Callin’ All Cowboys” 2010 was a switchboard descendant of local history and friendly fun.  An “Old Timers” celebration is what Lloree Knowles tells me, she originally suggested to the Kernville Business Association in 1957. Bob Powers writes in North Fork Country that Lloree (local realtor and go-getter business woman) continued for more than 25 years as an organizer of Whiskey Flat Days.

For such a fun, family and friends, local history weekend in 2010, thank you to all the modern-day go-getters who made it happen, including the Kernville Chamber of Commerce, Kernville Jill, and Man and Woman of the Year, Lanny and Cheryl Borthick.

Some of our favorites from the 2010 Whiskey Flat Days celebration were, actual local history with Shootin’ Walker reenactments, around the campfire at the Encampment, across from the Rodeo Grounds. The juniper-scented drumbeats of the Kern River native peoples that carried far and near, then and now. Cimarron Cynthia, Tenderfoot Tony, and Turncoat Chris workin’ together for the good of the Valley. The Claim Jumper panning the ‘real gold’ of the Valley, local history originally mined for us by 1969 Whiskey Flat Mayor, Bull Run Bob Powers.  And that “Dirty Shirt“ melodrama with all that hootin’ and booin’, one of the best yet and down-right professional.

Bravo for all the hard workin’ people who pulled off such a friendly, local fun celebration. Thank You for one of the best ever Whiskey Flat Days.

" Thank you for your thanks and participation. What a banner year of attendance. Everyone worked so hard for the good of all to have an enjoyable, memorable and for some, a prospertitable time. We have raised the bar for next year to be even better. "
