Fred W. Owen passed away Feb. 5, 2010, in Mt. Mesa, CA, after a short illness. He passed away peacefully with his daughter, Kathy, by his side. Fred was born in Oroville, Calif. to Bob and Hazel Owen. They moved to Orland, Calif. where he attended elementary and high school. He went on to receive his bachelor of arts degree at the College of Pacific in 1950.

He married Beverly DeParsia while attending college. He graduated from University of California School of Law, Boalt Hall, in Berkeley, Calif., three years later. After passing the California Bar, the family moved to Bakersfield, Calif. where Fred joined Standard Oil of California in the contracts division and remained there two and a half years before entering the District Attorney žs office in Kern County. He was with the District Attorney žs office for seven and a half years. During that time he was appointed Assistant D.A. by the District Attorney Kit Nelson. He left there in 1963 to go into private practice. He stayed in private practice for the remainder of his career. He retired in 1997 and moved to Kernville, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Hazel, and his brother Jack Owen. He is survived by his son, Fred Owen, his daughters, Kathy Wilson and her husband Bill of Kernville, Debra Owen of Pacific Grove, and Terry Hebert and her husband Ken of Visalia; grandchildren, Eric Wilson, Ross, Katie, and Kelsey Hebert, Salvadore and his wife Betty LiOwen, Alisha Owen; great-grandchildren Alanna and Donovan LiOwen; his cousin Fred Illingworth; and many nieces and nephews.

Fred loved to have fun. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and the company of his good friends. He will be missed by many.

The family would like to thank the lovely staff at the Skilled Nursing Facility in Mt. Mesa for their loving care, compassion and their friendship during his stay there. You were all his favorites. We would also like to thank the Hospice caregivers during Dad žs last days.

Dad requested no services and in lieu of flowers he would want you to donate to the charity of your choice.
