It was intended to be a secular, not a religious event and using the church facilities did not alter that intention. The event was scheduled for Circle Park but due to inclement weather Pastor Chaffee offered the church facilities and the event was moved to the church - much appreciated by the musicians!
The event was suggested by an atheist and involved the efforts of many persons representing a variety of cultures. We have a wide variety of cultures in our Valley and seldom have an opportunity to recognize and celebrate them. Per my experience, we have Native Americans, Arabian, Afrikaners, African-Americans, Latinos, Filipinos, Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese, Anglo-Saxons, various European cultures (German, Italian, Polish, etc.) and others – plus others of which I’m not aware - and a variety of Christian faiths and Wicca and atheists and other non-believers and persons of various sexual orientations (heterosexual, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual.)

Do you have something to hide?
You call me names and accuse me of being homophobic.
You have no idea what kind of person I am.
You and those like you are very narrow minded lacking in empathy and resort to name calling when you have no intellectual response to an opinion differing from your.
Mac, I don't allow myself to be a victim.
Victim hood like hate is a wasteful, debilitating emotion.
I don't have time for either. "

I have noticed that when a good point is made, some post resort to sophmoric name calling and whining.(bobo, tired, true) so I think Mac,STR8WOH8 and I have made reasonable points yet again.
MLK was smarter, kinder, inspiring and more reasonable than some here can dream of so no wonder you are jealous. Perhaps you can redirect your energies in a more constructive manner. Like STR8W/OH8 said, educate youself with your computer instead of spread hate with it. "

John. When you can view me at the healthy person that I am instead of someone with "an incurable condition" because of the adult that I love, coffee is on. As I recall, I had to stand my ground and drill in the fact that "domestic partnership" is NOT the same as marriage. I did say that we did have a reasonable and respectful discussion until you said I was "sick". "

I have always felt that no one, including Gays, should ever be deprived of their Constitutional or Civil Rights.
How unfortunate progressives and liberals are to be so closed minded and disrespectful of others beliefs, traditions and values.
Why does my Constitutionally guaranteed opinion matter to anyone as long as I treat others with the respect and dignity their entitled to.
A diversity of OPINIONS, beliefs, traditions and values are what have made America great.
My coffee offer still stands. "

He wanted a color blind society where one was not judged by the color of his skin but the content of his character.
Diversity is a term coined by progressives and democrats to separate America into groups and voting blocks.
We will never realize Rev. Kings dream as long as America is divided into groups.
Dr. King wanted all citizens to be equal in the American culture and dream.
To co-opt and change the meaning of the day set aside to honor this man and his dream is, in my opinion, unseemly. "

The paper seems to be getting smaller and the Letters to the editor are nice but very bland.
Nothing is printed to stimulate an interesting debate, it's all liberal
I'm a conservative that used to contribute but on several occasions I was censored.
Like others I don't buy the paper anymore but I do stop by the web site on occasion.
On one occasion I invited Celia to coffee but she never responded. Like the paper if you don't think their way your evil and not worthy of respect. "

BTW I too am a hard working tax paying citizen and have lived here over 6 years. I like diversity:it's good for the brain to do and think differently:creats good wrinkles in brain tissue. I love to see people celebrate diversity so bring it on!
