Community Voices: Thank you Kern River Valley

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure to receive donations from several locations in the valley on behalf of the Caravan of Compassion. Pick-ups started on Thursday at the Edward Jones office in Lake Isabella. A large tub was filled with toys and articles of clothing. While inside, the office manager and a customer eagerly reached into their pockets to add a monetary donation.

On to Kern Valley High School where I received a full barrel of food items thanks to the students and staff (a shout out to the ASB for their leadership in this effort.) They will retain a barrel for continuing donations.

Next stop, the Forest Service Station in Kernville. It took three trips from the office to my truck to receive the donations. Kernville Elementary School was not to be outdone by the high school as they too supplied me with a shopping cart full of canned goods.

Completing the day was a food donation from Sienna Wellness in Mt. Mesa. Although I personally did not pick up from the other pick-up locations, I want to thank them also, these businesses include Vons, Isabella Market and Sierra Gateway Market. All collected before the official day of collection. Saturday the 19th brought even more generous donations from the giving citizens of the Kern River Valley. Every stop we made there was giving of articles of clothing, food, toys, blankets and cash. At our stop in Kernville one resident supplied us with four full bags of new toys and hand crafted gifts. I am overwhelmed with the continual generosity of this valley.

It seems a week does not go by that there is not a mention in our local papers about the wonderful giving ways of the people, schools, churches, businesses, service groups and clubs of the Kern River Valley. Thanks again to you all, and way the giving spirit of the season be with each and every one of us all year long.

" ....And I am thanking God, Jenny for your efforts on behalf of the community, and those in need. I am just curious, why was there an "early pickup" of items on Thursday instead of the advertised and regularly scheduled 3rd Saturday of the month? Just curious. "

" I had seen the COMPASSION CARAVAN vehicles off & on throughout the year and always 'wanted' to give but never seemed to remember the right date, or the pick up times.
Thankfully, I read a small posting about the December 19th date for donations & I decided right then & there to make that 'the day' that I could finally donate. I had been collecting clothes, shoes & toiletries for quite a while & felt awesome giving to those less fortunate. There are so many hurting right now, we need to do all we can! God Bless "
