Grazing on soddy pastures

Kernville Jill

This is Kernville Jill with her own eye-report on the doin’s of the Whiskey Flat Mayor’s Race.

I have surveyed the race much as a bookie would in order to set the line for the betting man and near as I can tell we have the following…

Cimmeron Cynthia - a fine little filly with her eye set on the purse and running like the wind with a steady gate. There’s no handicap with this bet. She set the scale and is sure to run the length and mostly likely to finish strong if she can get to the inside quickly.

TenderFoot Tony - here’s an old gelding with a number of jockeys that are determined to see him cross the line in record time. I’ve not seen this horse run before but I have seen many a horse win in the end when the whip is applied with integrity.

TurnCoat Chris – Thurrabred if ever there was one. Fine in the flank and fearless. He does come with a handicap… His jockeys must attend school during the day and in bed by 9:30, so his window of training is slim. He does have a seasoned gray mare that schools him in racing, sadly she is a quarter horse.

Be as it may a trifecta we will have and I’m afreared it’s a wet track all over this territory and candidates are grazing on soddy pastures. Surely one candidate is bound to founder and come up splayed hoof while the others will go neck and neck to the very finish line. Which horse will it be?
