Great Fishing Continues here in the Kern River Valley.

For those of us that have been taking advantage of this great January weather to do a little bit of fishing we have not been disappointed.

The lake has been like glass lately, even in the afternoons which is pretty rare, trust me.

I took a look at the trout the Habitat Club is growing for the fishing tournament, they are getting big! They look great.

Trout are biting around the lake. Not long ago there was a plant of Trophy Alpers trout and there is another plant coming up. Check your drags these are big fish.

Crappie have turned on as well, if you can find deep structure you will find fish. Concentrate on the sunken trees off Rocky Point, French Gulch Marina and deep water at Piney Point.

Cats are on the prowl, they are deep but they are active. Caught a good one the other day jigging for Crappie. Bass are few and far between but if you do find one chances are it will be big. Shad are everywhere in the lake right now, and the fish are actively feeding on them.

River fishing has been slow with the cold water but persistence pays off.

Borel Canal is fishing quite well as long as the levels stay up, look for it to get better as the spring approaches and the Shad prepare to spawn. Until next week, tight lines.
