Why do we set aside a day for a “dreamer” when we roll all of our past presidents into one day of recognition? Probably for the same reason elected officials are permitted to violate the trust placed in them by the voters. It is time to put the tea in the harbor and let the voters regain control.

The writers of our Constitution had the foresight to stipulate, among other requirements, that only property owners were qualified to vote. I don’t necessarily agree with that rule, but I do think that only tax payers should have the privilege of voting. If you don’t have a vested interest in our government why should you have the right to direct it by voting?

At the present time our elected officials are putting the economics of our children’s future in great danger and they seem to think that the taxpayers will be able to fund their “wildest” dreams and schemes. It was never intended that we taxpayers support all the world’s needs as well as the ones here who seem to not want to work. No aid should be given to governments but direct to people in need, after all their leaders,in many cases, are responsible for their condition.

If you are content with the way our country is headed, then I suggest you look at the history of past civilizations and see what happened to them, they rotted from the inside much like a fir tree, then they fall.

Governments can not tolerate parasites and leaches so think about what you do when you go to the polls.

" $100 million to create some positive PR is relatively cheap. Personally, I think it is difficult to put a price on human life. Martin Luther King gave his life to the civil rights movement. No other person embodies this movement more. President's day is actually a tribute to two presidents; Washington and Lincoln. Nixon chose to combine the two federal holidays into one because their birthdays were less than two-weeks apart. Every person has vested interest in the country in which they live and the laws that govern that country. "

" *Bravo* Beutifully written. Not being a land owner yet, I don't like the Idea of not being able to vote according to the original constitution. Being a taxpayer and having the right to vote I believe is a fair trade. I also think that you should not be able to vote if you have been convicted of felonies. Some people don't understand that U.S. rights extend only to U.S. citizens, not everyone in the U.S. Many people living here have no intrest in anything but the U.S.$ to send back to their native land. But it is comforting to know that Barbara and her multi-personalities are still holding vigil here in the KRV. You do not know who I am and no one thinks of me as a nutcase in this community, quite the contrary, however, everyone knows all of you are pro-gays and embrace the local progressive movement in this valley and are fairly new to the area! Just because you say so does not mean it is. "

(That 97% includes men women, all colors etc-unless you are a multi-millionaire or corporation.) Now any lobbyist can tell any Senator, vote for our clients issue, or we will make sure you are not re-elected. And they are correct. They can do that.

I know this as was in a position to be informed, the agency I was with tracked these types of homosexuals, they wanted to know how to keep it out of our country, they failed to uncover in time! "

Does your God not "give a hoot" about people in ALL countries? Does your God even care about man made borders? Does your God look at skin color like you do? This country has lost a sense of integrity and value and unfortunately it was the Bush administration that made it possible for a clown like Obama to achieve the presidency and further destroy our values and worth as a Nation. His ratings have dropped, good! It further amazes me that with all of the poverty, unemployment, and troubles in this Nation, we continue to fork out to third-world countries. Let the benefits and charities help. "

Today we can celebrate because one state showed the new "Progressive/Liberals" they are tired of the "new business as usual created by the POTUS in January 2009"----part of the problem rests in the ability of the people such as the first commenter to this thread, in thinking they are intelligent and learned enough to make a rational decision regarding government/and the "ruling class." That is basically the problem, we let that class of people think! Now how do you "progressives" like that? "
