If it’s a special, honor it

I believe that most all of our local business owners try to create goodwill and support the community. It was business owners who encouraged me to write a letter to the editor, so appalled were they by the following event:

On May 27 I placed a lunch order to be picked up the following day from a local establishment. I was required to pay on the 27th since it was such a large order, for 66 school children. The teenager behind the counter said I would be eligible for a special. When the owner came in and tallied the order, I asked about the special, but he said, “We aren’t doing that.” The next day I discovered there was indeed a special, announced on the radio.

Fellow people of the community who feel they have been taken advantage of or similarly disrespected, we do have a voice. My action was the following:First, I spoke to the owner. Conclusion: His position is “At the time you placed the order, the special was not on.” The special was on at the time the order was picked up. My position is “It is disrespectful and wrong that you did not honor the radio advertisement” and “I will not come here again and I will tell everyone.” Next, I called the Chamber of Commerce, made a claim with the Better Business Bureau, wrote this letter, and talked to lots of people. I have found that everyone is nice to talk to and wants to know. Amount in dispute? $6.93!

One last thing, the owner said the boy should not have told me about the special. I am concerned for his job. To him I’d like to say,you were right to tell me about the special.
